Fertilisers

The fertiliser business is the commodity that Porter Ag built itself upon. Having originally formed strong relationships with J & H Bunn Ltd in the early eighties, we came to offer a very competitive service, unparalleled in the trade. We can now say that we offer the service of the largest independent family run fertiliser business in the UK. At the same time we link ourselves into many other companies through our supply chain, offering all the other fertiliser products available to the UK grower. It is once again in our interest to find the most competitive seller. This guarantees our funding, continuing the development and expansion of our business as we see the rationalisation of the Merchants in the UK. We are currently trading a greater range of fertilisers than any other Company, whilst offering something no other company can: every fertiliser available in the UK !! direct from a leading principal.

To draw some sort of comparison in our business you could compare our activities with that of the co-operatives, although we do not have to charge their fees as we do not carry the overheads necessary to operate in the way they are structured.

This enviable position has lead us to deal with some of the largest buyers of fertilisers in the UK. Not having to principal means we can work on margins only brokering can sustain, whilst still linking in to whichever company has taken the best position for selling. This market position is only down to luck at the time of purchase, because once again nobody knows for certain which way the market will ultimately go.

Services on offer

Technical matters are handled with ADAS/ Rothampstead/ Morley/ TIS etc all filtering information through the J & H Bunn Ltd network. We are FACTS registered and have some very in-depth soil profile work, looking at splitting fields into soil type using growers knowledge, or GPS systems available and then applying nutrients accordingly.

Soil sampling services:
a. A collection service for samples drawn by the grower or agronomist.
b. Samplers work in conjunction with grower .
The majority of our soil testing is completed by ADAS at Wolverhampton

Spreading: we can offer a fleet of spreaders in the UK, from quad bikes through to Big A's which apply fertilisers.  We can then address the necessary imbalance in Phosphates, Potassium, Calcium, & Magnesiums etc.
